In response to a submission call for the Queer Arts Festival in Vancouver,  I  considered what it would look like and what it would require to create a utopia, one that embraces diversity.  Two things came to mind.  If we don’t live in a perfect world, then at least we can have moments of perfection, moments that take our breath away and remind us of our greatness.  In our search for this utopia, we can only do one thing: practice. We must practice the things that open the way for those perfect moments. Inspired by the colours of the pride rainbow, and the 7 chakras, each of the paintings in this series represents a moment of perceived perfection, and a practice towards it.

A utopian experience may exist only in brief moments,

or perhaps simply as a practice towards the possibility of one.
