Situations is a series of landscapes that examine the relationship between internal and external spaces.

In each painting, a figure emerges from the system of branches and arteries and responds to its environment. The environment is created first in the texture and initial washes of colour, in a process that balances just enough deliberate action with a generous amount of chance. Each environment is a surprise and from there, I choose the gestures that reply best to each environment and create figures that appear in the branches and arteries.
